The Wyoming Department of Family Services, in collaboration with NourishedRx, is pleased to announce a comprehensive statewide survey aimed at understanding Wyoming’s food landscape. This collaborative initiative aims to gain valuable insight into the needs and challenges facing the people of Wyoming when it comes to food access and nutrition.
Make your voice heard and take our survey here. In addition to the food environment survey, which is open to all Wyoming residents, the NourishRx team will conduct interviews, facilitate focus groups, conduct participatory observations at local food pantries, and establish a community advisory board.
This committee will be comprised of Wyoming residents interested in working with the research team to develop final recommendations.
If you are interested in participating in other components of the study, please indicate this in the survey.
The Department of Agriculture’s Household Food Security Survey, last conducted in 2021, found that 11.2% of Wyoming residents experience food insecurity, making Wyoming’s food insecurity rate 7 percentage points higher than the national average of 10.4%.
For those familiar with the term “food desert,” it’s no surprise that most of Wyoming meets the criteria.
This project will be implemented in conjunction with several efforts currently underway in Wyoming aimed at reducing food insecurity. Key highlights of the survey include:
- **Gift Card Incentive:** The first 100 respondents will receive a gift card as a thank you for their time and expertise. The more people who participate, the greater the impact on the accuracy of the survey.
- **Community-Centered Approach:** This survey was specifically designed to capture the diverse perspectives and experiences of Wyoming residents. By focusing on the unique needs of each community, NourishedRx and the Wyoming Department of Family Services aim to tailor solutions that effectively address local challenges.
- **Empowering Wyoming Communities:** Information gleaned from the survey enables decision makers to create initiatives that directly benefit Wyoming communities.
From addressing food deserts to promoting nutrition education, the findings will help shape policies that prioritize the health and well-being of Wyoming’s people.
