Munich. They are there when others need help. Cristiano Allano, Anke Boysen, Markus Enter and Thomas Fanauer are the winners of the 12th BMW Group Social Responsibility Award. The official ceremony was held in Munich on September 14th. This award honors our employees around the world who volunteer their time. Each winner will receive a prize of 10,000 euros for their project.
The BMW Group Awards highlight the company’s social efforts, encourage the participation of others and promote social initiatives among its employees. “I feel so proud every year at this award ceremony. It’s great to have employees who are responsible and committed to helping others, and it’s amazing what they can accomplish in their free time. The BMW Group Award is highly valued within the company and builds connections between volunteers. This year he again had over 100 employees competing for one of his four awards. From these, the judges selected 11 projects for the final screening, and all nominated projects attended the award ceremony. These dedicated employees have one thing in common. It means donating your time and know-how to improve the lives of the socially disadvantaged and the needy. Every finalist will receive his 2,500 euros each for his initiative.

Markus Enter won the employee vote.works for the BMW Group in Munich and volunteers as a hospice helper at St. Vincenz Hospital in Augsburg. He accompanies people with serious illnesses during the final stages of their life journey. Through his empathy, compassion, and gift of time, he helps people dispel their fear of death and dying. When practical help is needed, he simply prepares snacks, brings food and drinks to hospice patients, and assists caregivers. He also provides moral support to his relatives.
Cristiano Arano, winner of the Bella and Volker Doppelfeld Prize; I work at the BMW Group’s Aracari plant in Brazil, supporting underprivileged young people in the poor neighborhoods of Joinville. Social mobility through excellent schooling is the aim of the ASSOCIAÇÃO PROJETO RESGATE initiative. Alano has a special focus on promoting character development and encouraging young people to become more confident and independent. As a mentor, he teaches techniques for solving social issues.
Anke BoysenHe works for the BMW Group in Munich and is passionate about training rescue dogs for rescue operations. As a dog handler for the ISAR German Foundation, she also accompanies rescue dog teams on missions around the world, most recently after the earthquake in Turkey. Specially trained rescue dogs can find buried people and save lives.
thomas fanauerHe works at the BMW Group’s Araquari factory and volunteers with the ONG Esperanca Brasil initiative, which uses wooden pallets to build simple homes for homeless people. He was motivated by the sometimes appalling living conditions of the Brazilian people, who often lacked a decent home. Wooden pallets were once used as packaging materials for shipping. Their continued use will also help the project contribute to climate protection.

Fulfilling social responsibility is part of the BMW Group’s identity. To achieve this objective, the company has long encouraged social participation among its employees. The BMW Group Social Responsibility Award uniquely recognizes the personal efforts of employees. Along with SOCIAL DAYS and SOCIAL DRIVE IT platform, it is one of the three pillars of SOCIAL DRIVE, which pools employee volunteer activities. Social Days are held on various occasions with the purpose of increasing employees’ interest in social contribution and encouraging them to actively participate.
