With New Year’s resolutions still burning, many single people have “find love” firmly etched on their 2024 to-do lists. And if Cupid’s arrow hits, it could all start with a simple swipe on the first Sunday of the year, aptly called “Date Sunday.”
Millions of single Americans looking for a fresh start in their love lives will flock to dating apps this Sunday for the unofficial “Dating Sunday,” the busiest day of the year for online relationships. It is expected.
Driven by New Year’s resolutions and rising optimism, dating platforms are expecting a dramatic surge in activity. Tinder, which bills itself as the “Super Bowl of apps,” is expected to see a 22% increase in messages and 18% increase in likes compared to a typical Sunday.
According to dating experts, it’s a time of fresh starts, and finding love is at the top of the list for many people. Tinder says, “Sunday Date is your chance to be your best in the digital world.”
What is Date Sunday?
The first Sunday in January has naturally emerged as the busiest day for online dating. Tinder reports that its average response time was 20 minutes faster on Dating Sundays compared to other Sundays, reflecting the increased engagement of its users.
The platform capitalizes on the increased traffic with dedicated marketing campaigns. For example, Tinder launched its “It Starts with a Swipe” campaign in conjunction with Dating Him Sunday, encouraging users to take the first step toward a potential connection.
How to navigate Sunday dates like a pro:
- Update your profile. Update your bio with your recent hobbies, interests, and goals. Include an attractive photo that shows your personality.
- Keep it concise and original. Aim for a 25-word introduction that captures your essence and sparks conversation.
- Throw away the filter: Use a real photo that accurately represents you.
- Be upfront about your intentions. Are you looking for a casual date or a long-term relationship? Communicate your expectations clearly.
- Showcase your passion: Highlight your hobbies and interests to attract like-minded people.
According to Tinder, usage will be relatively high in the lead up to Valentine’s Day, and usage will level off after Valentine’s Day.
The dating app said it received about 58.7 million more likes in the six weeks ending February 14 compared to the rest of the year.
