Ryan Moore came out in the clutch. Entering the week in 128th place, he finished T-8 at the RSM Classic with a bogey-free round of 62-65, jumping to 118th and earning full status for the 2024 season. He is the only player in the top 125 in the FedEx Cup Fall Standings and will be exempt from participating in all full-field events and The Players Championship next season.
“I thought I needed a birdie on number 17, or at least one of the last two, to make it. Somehow, I managed to get it in,” he said, adding that the tension lies ahead in the golf tournament ahead. He said it reminded him to try to win. “I think I started this fall around 150th or so, but I was way off and I was out of a lot of points.”
One difference for Moore this fall is that he changed his putter to an Odyssey Rossi AI putter.
“I had narrowed it down to two or three putters that looked pretty good, and my 7-year-old Sally was there, and I was like, ‘Hey, which one do you like?'” He came up to me. He seemed to have examined them. He was like that too. I felt like I was committed to it. ”
Troy Merritt started the week in 123rd place, missed the cut on Friday, but held on to his final spot with a ranking of 125th. The unlucky loser was Karl Yuan. He entered the week as the 125th ranked bubble boy and remained there heading into the final round. He birdied his final two holes, but with four bogeys, it wasn’t enough and he finished 126th in the standings with an even-par 70 (T-68).
“It’s been a pressure week, I can’t lie,” he said. “I didn’t leave anything behind.”
However, he said he was concerned about his back this week, which may have affected his play.
“The Airbnb bed was too soft for me and I started getting irritated like Thursday night,” he said. “I tried to rehab and do things like that, but it definitely made me a little anxious. You know, that comes with the profession. I have to take good care of my body. It’s my responsibility. .”
