- Transfer of freehold land to Darwarinu State for early learning center
- The 1,012 square meter Crown site will support the centre’s continued operations, including after-school care.
- By increasing early learning opportunities, more parents will be able to re-employ locally.
The Cook Government has approved the transfer of 1,012 square meters of land to support the growth of the Early Years Learning Center in MacNeil Street, Dalwarinu.
The site will be transferred to Daruwarinu State on a conditional freehold basis in recognition of its immediate and long-term benefits to the Daruwarinu community.
Built in 2022, the dedicated early years facility was built by the shire and is co-located with the town’s early childhood learning centre, toy library and playgroup.
The early learning center’s operating days have increased from four to five days, and the capacity for children has increased from 19 to 27. This means more parents can re-enter the workforce and boost local economies.
Comment from Minister of Lands John Carey:
“The Cook Government continues to work with local governments to identify government idle land for housing and other projects that benefit local communities.
“We are committed to supporting the local community, including by making land available to support the continued operation of Daruwarinu Early Childhood Education and Care Centre.
“Increasing child care capacity will improve educational and social outcomes for young children and their families in our communities.”
