EDWARDSVILLE — With Veterans Day falling on Saturday, government offices, banks, schools and many businesses will be closed Friday for the holiday.
The Secret Service will not publish a print newspaper on Saturday in observance of Veterans Day. As always, the latest news can be found at theintelligencer.com.
Formerly known as Armistice Day, this holiday was originally a day of remembrance for military personnel who died serving the United States. November 11th was celebrated as the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.
In 1954, the holiday became Veterans Day, honoring all veterans of all wars.
