BELOIT – The West Branch Local School District recognized military veterans during an event held at the school on Nov. 10.
These events were held throughout the week leading up to Veterans Day, a national day honoring those who have served in America’s military.
The event began on November 10th with a morning assembly at the West Branch, followed by an afternoon assembly at the West Branch. Students at the Early Learning Center also welcomed veterans at a veterans breakfast on Nov. 6.
On Nov. 10, area veterans were invited to join the high school student group and hear the history of Veterans Day as the West Branch band and choir performed. Additionally, Principal Blaine His Coffee tells the story of his uncle who served in World War II, and West Branch’s multimedia class screens videos honoring students and staff members who have family members who served in the military, either former or current. did.
On the afternoon of Nov. 10, the middle school recognized those who served at an assembly. The 5th and 6th grade small ensemble choir performed “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and the 4th grade music class also performed songs. The 7th grade band also performed “God Bless America.” The featured guest speaker was U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Thomas McMillan Jr. (Ret.) spoke about what it means to be a veteran and took questions from the young audience.
On Nov. 6, the Early Learning Center held a “Brave Breakfast” and welcomed more than 90 veterans to the ELC gym. Students from Kindergarten to his second grade invited active or retired veterans to have breakfast with them. The West Branch Parent Activities Committee provided breakfast and decorated the gymnasium.
