Walmart mailed its 2023 holiday toy catalog and it arrived in your mailbox two weeks after Amazon. The biggest difference between the two is that his 104-page mailer on Amazon has better print quality and also comes with stickers. Walmart’s 64-page mailbox is the kind of mailbox you’d expect to see featured in newspaper inserts around Black Friday.
Similarities: Both feature activities for kids to do, like Mr. Potato Head’s connect-the-dots from Walmart and word search puzzles from Amazon. Both catalogs feature her QR codes, allowing shoppers to call up the toys featured on each page on their mobile devices.
Walmart’s catalog has many pages that help shoppers find gifts in a specific price range – p. For example, 4 has a feature called “Find Toys Under $10.” Some of the callouts are brand-specific. For example, “Choose His Bratz Under $30” on page 13. 35. Flipping through the pages catches the eye of value shoppers.
Walmart is also displaying a “Top Toys” badge on something that says, “This year’s must-haves – look for this badge to discover this season’s coolest toys.”
Walmart promotes its membership program on page 2 under “Adults, Start Here” and encourages you to start a free 30-day trial at WalmartPlus.com. Amazon Prime once dominated streaming with Amazon Prime Video, but now Walmart Plus includes a subscription to the Paramount+ streaming service.
Amazon touts its membership program on the back cover of the mailer, telling parents, “Adults should do more with Prime,” and mentioning the streaming service.
It will be interesting to see which catalog attracts and holds the attention of children (and parents). Amazon’s catalog features a cartoon fox riding a sleigh on its cover, while Walmart’s catalog features toys such as Barbie dolls and ninja turtles on its cover. Which cover will grab the children’s attention and make them look twice, third, or fourth time?
Amazon’s catalog is bound and Walmart’s is stapled together, and both give kids plenty of things they want for the holidays.
