Attention shoppers: The nation’s largest retailer is spending billions of dollars in store upgrades that it hopes will keep more customers coming back for longer periods of time. .
Walmart will spend more than $500 million on layout improvements and new technology to reopen 117 stores in 30 states this Friday, making it the first one-day reopening since Walmart opened in 1962. It will be the largest scale.
The new look unveiled Monday is part of a two-year, $9 billion project to modernize more than 1,400 of Walmart’s 4,717 stores nationwide.
