The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall of Great Value apple juice sold by Walmart. Approximately 9,535 units are affected, according to the FDA recall alert. The juice is manufactured by Refresco Beverages US Inc.
The recalled product is a six-pack of 8-ounce plastic bottles of 100% apple juice. The recall number is F-1746-2024 and the best-by date is DEC2824, CT89-6. The UPC is 0-78742-29655-5. According to the FDA, the product “contains inorganic arsenic in excess of limits established by industry guidelines.”
According to the FDA recall, the products were sold at Walmart stores in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.

The Hill reported that a Walmart spokesperson said the company had removed the products from stores. “The health and safety of our customers is always our top priority,” the spokesperson said. “We have removed the products from affected stores and are working with our supplier to investigate.”
According to the FDA's website, the recall has been updated to Class II, which the agency says is “a situation in which use of or exposure to the violative product may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects or a low likelihood of serious adverse health effects.”
The FDA has not disclosed how many illnesses may be associated with the recall, but the levels found in the apple juice are low enough that the FDA does not believe they will pose serious health problems.
This recall follows a candy recall issued at Walmart in May, according to NJ.com. According to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration recall notice, Palmer Candy Company candies and snacks sold at retailers such as Walmart and Target have been recalled due to the risk of Salmonella poisoning. The recall began in May and was reclassified as a “Class I recall” on August 6, 2024.
