Kantar’s 2023 U.S. PowerRanking report ranks Walmart No. 1 among retailers. The retailer has maintained its top spot every year since the report was first published in 1997. PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, NestlĆ© and General Mills were ranked as the top five suppliers in 2023.

The current climate has forced shoppers to prioritize value, and leading suppliers and retailers are reflecting these concerns as they look ahead to 2024, the report said.
“The current value-centric focus is driven by macroeconomic realities such as reduced government support and the resumption of student loan payments, and spills over into retail realities such as inflation and ‘shrinkflation.'” The book says:
Economic uncertainty may force retailer and manufacturer/supplier collaboration to focus on two different customers: cost-conscious shoppers and quality-conscious shoppers. Retailers catering to budget-conscious shoppers are prioritizing partnerships with suppliers who ensure the availability and strategic pricing of key items and effectively communicate the value-for-money message to shoppers.
Conversely, retailers who are positioning themselves for a more premium experience are increasingly relying on their suppliers to maximize convenience, quality, and service. This includes activities that enable disruptive innovation and the ability to deliver valuable, personalized offers and relevant shopper solutions.
