The program allows pharmacists to provide testing and treatment for influenza, strep throat and COVID-19 across the state.
Walmart remains focused on expanding convenient access to health care with the recent launch of testing and treatment services in all 12 pharmacies across Wyoming. The program allows pharmacists to test customers for the flu, strep and COVID-19 and prescribe the appropriate treatment if they test positive — all in one location and one visit.
Your test and treatment appointment begins with a brief consultation between you and our pharmacist. The pharmacist then performs a nasal or throat swab test on you and passes the swab through a medical diagnostic device to receive the results. The pharmacist then informs you of the results and prescribes the appropriate medication on the spot, if necessary. The entire process, from consultation to receiving the results, usually takes less than 30 minutes.
“We are pleased to offer this new service to the communities we serve in Wyoming,” said Kevin Host, Walmart's senior vice president of pharmacy. “Our pharmacists continue to work to the best of their ability within the scope of their license to close gaps in care and improve health outcomes for all, and we are incredibly grateful to our stakeholders across the state who have worked with us to expand access to care.”
The expansion of the test and treat program in Wyoming is part of a broader expansion in Montana, Nebraska, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Since launching last August, Walmart Pharmacy has now rolled out the test and treat program in 21 states. In total, testing and treatment services are available in more than 1,540 Walmart stores nationwide with plans to continue expanding. Currently in Wyoming, the service is cash only, with preparations underway to begin billing third-party insurance plans. Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) are accepted.
