Do you buy your apple juice from Walmart? If so, you might want to check the brand on the bottle before drinking it.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a voluntary recall of 9,535 8-ounce Great Value apple juice (UPC 0-78742-29655-5) six-packs in PET plastic bottles sold at Walmart. In recall number F-1746-2024, issued Aug. 15, the federal agency said the apple juice “contains inorganic arsenic in excess of the limits established by industry guidelines.”
On August 23, the recall was upgraded to Class II.The FDA defines leukemia as a product that “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects or has a low likelihood of causing serious adverse health effects.”
The FDA said, “Current research indicates that inorganic arsenic is more dangerous than organic arsenic,” and that long-term exposure to inorganic arsenic in adults increases the risk of skin diseases, skin cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer and cardiovascular disease, the federal agency said.
According to the FDA, short-term exposure to inorganic arsenic can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bruising, and numbness or burning in the hands and feet.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), inorganic arsenic is a confirmed carcinogen, meaning it can cause cancer, and is a “chemical contaminant in drinking water sources worldwide.”
According to the intergovernmental organization, inorganic arsenic compounds found in normal water are highly toxic, but organic arsenic compounds found in seafood are less harmful.
