Walmart announced a series of new initiatives at the Let's Grow! 2024 Walmart Marketplace Seller Summit.
The main announcements were as follows:
- Premium Beauty: The marketplace will be introducing a new premium beauty section featuring more than 20 new brands.
- Used item: “Resold at Walmart” will enable customers to digitally sell pre-owned items across a range of categories on a platform featuring 5 million items from more than 1,700 sellers, supporting Walmart's sustainability goals.
- Collectibles: Walmart is expanding its selection of collectibles, including action figures, trading cards and sports memorabilia. The new feature allows sellers to pre-order and sell used items. Sellers can take advantage of waiving fees on collectibles through October 31.
Walmart is also strengthening its omnichannel integration: The company “connected tire retailers on its Marketplace with 2,300 Walmart Supercenter Auto Care Centers. Customers can order eligible tires from retailers online and have them delivered to their local Supercenter for easy installation. Additionally, more than 4,600 Walmart stores nationwide now accept Marketplace returns.”
On the fulfillment side, Walmart is introducing new solutions to streamline merchant operations with multi-channel logistics, allowing them to fulfill orders from any e-commerce platform using Walmart's supply chain, and cross-border fulfillment to streamline imports at Asian ports.
As the holiday season approaches, Walmart is offering several new incentives for its merchants, including:
- An improved Global Seller Center and app to make cross-border selling even easier.
- Peak season storage fees will be waived for inventory sent to Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) centers by September 30.
- Expanded access to Walmart Marketplace Capital, providing cash advances of up to $5 million.
- A new deals dashboard to manage holiday promotions and offers.
Additionally, starting next month, Walmart+ members will receive a 25% discount on Burger King digital orders as well as a free Whopper with every purchase every three months. The partnership aims to increase the value of Walmart+ membership with additional dining perks. Members can access these perks by linking their Walmart+ and Burger King accounts through the BK app or website.
