A Walmart shopper said he was refused permission to leave the store for more than 20 minutes after an attendant asked to see his receipt, which he was unable to receive due to a malfunctioning self-checkout machine.
A woman has gone viral on TikTok after claiming that Walmart staff refused to let her leave the store because the self-checkout machine didn’t print her receipt.
Mary from the TikTok profile tateandmary took to the stage to share what happened when she visited her local Walmart and how she wasn’t allowed to leave.

“Usually they don’t even ask,” she continued. “For example, you can just leave and they don’t worry about it. But this time I was standing at a self-checkout register and was right next to the guy checking the receipt. You see, right? There are women watching me there too. However, Mary told the Walmart teller that the self-scanning machine did not print the receipt. Because of this, a Walmart employee told Mary that she could not leave the store without her receipt.
“I said, ‘Okay, can I have a receipt?'” Mary reported. “And she said no,” Mary replied. You just saw me paying for everything. ”
The employee then said to Mary, “Ma’am, why are you being so picky?”

Mary told viewers she was detained at the store for 20 minutes, but did not say why she was finally able to leave. She concluded instead: “I literally won’t go back there. I don’t care how cheap it is.”

In a follow-up video, Mary explained that she was able to use the card she paid for to prove she had purchased the items she was trying to remove from the store.

Viewers confused by Walmart staff member who didn’t let woman leave
People immediately received comments discussing Mary’s situation and how strange it was that she wasn’t allowed to go out.
