Organizations join forces to donate 15,000 pounds of food to Houston food banks
For the seventh year in a row, Walmart, Bimbo Bakeries USA, and Tyson Foods have worked together to end hunger across the United States.
Through a partnership with Feeding America, the three companies donated 15,000 pounds of food, equivalent to 12,500 meals, to the Houston Food Bank. Millions of Americans are facing the loss or reduction of food benefits this year, and Feeding America food banks like the Houston Food Bank are struggling to meet demand.
Representatives from various organizations visited the Houston Food Bank today to volunteer, deliver donations, and tour the facility. As part of this partnership, Walmart, Bimbo Bakeries USA, and Tyson Foods will donate 5,000 pounds of bread and 10,000 pounds of protein, which will be distributed to individuals and families over the coming weeks.
“We are extremely grateful to our corporate partners for this generous donation,” said Brian Green, president and CEO of the Houston Food Bank. “The end of pandemic-related food benefits and the economic downturn are creating additional hardship for families, many of whom never thought they would find themselves in this situation.”
