The latest version of VMware's Tanzu Platform 10 comes with a range of AI tools, including expanded observation capabilities to combat hallucinations and tighter integration with NVIDIA's VMware Private AI Foundation.
This tenth version of the Tanzu platform includes a variety of performance and security upgrades. Also,It has improved support for Kubernetes and Global Server Load Balancing, which aims to optimally distribute traffic across multiple servers regardless of their physical location around the world.
Broadcom, which became VMware's new owner this year, announced the new Tanzu at VMware Explore 2024 in Las Vegas. The platform aims to make it easier for enterprise customers to develop cloud-based applications, especially those that use AI, so it's no surprise that this release is centered around that.
Building applications just got easier
A key new feature is Tanzu AI Solutions, a set of tools that makes it easier for companies to build applications that use generative AI. One component is Spring AI, which enables Java developers, for example, to add AI capabilities to their applications without having to learn another language, such as Python.
Another tool, GenAI on the Tanzu platform, helps developers securely establish connections with over 100 different LLMs through a set of APIs. This allows developers to worry less about managing roles and secrets, since that's already largely managed for them. The platform also includes GenAI's Observability, which allows companies to check the performance of their AI apps and measure their accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
Enhanced Kubernetes support
Tanzu Platform 10 also provides advanced support for Kubernetes, enabling you to deploy complex applications at scale and run them consistently across environments. The platform adds a new application layer that enables developers to focus on their applications without worrying about the underlying infrastructure, and management is completely separate from application development and delivered by the responsible IT team.
Tips: This “Maturity Model” is the basis for HashiCorp's cloud infrastructure standards.
Tanzu Platform 10 works with VMware Cloud Foundation to further simplify the setup and management of private cloud environments, supporting air-gapped environments (completely isolated from the internet for added security) and automating much of the installation process, which Broadcom promises to save customers time and effort.
Additionally, Tanzu Platform 10 is integrated with NVIDIA's VMware Private AI Foundation, making building demanding AI apps that require the power of NVIDIA GPUs more efficient and manageable. This capability provides customers with tailored, off-the-shelf AI tools that they can customize to fit their organization's needs.
Add a pinch of salt
Of course, security is also a consideration. Tanzu Platform 10 includes Tanzu Salt, which helps you meet security and compliance requirements. The platform also integrates secure, pre-validated (open source) software images, ensuring only approved versions are operational. This integration ensures the security of your workloads through continuous vulnerability scanning of both your images and the VMs they run on.
Tanzu Platform 10 is built on the open source platform Cloud Foundry, providing developers with a “golden path” – a step-by-step guide that makes it easy to containerize secure applications.
