This half term, there are thousands of free and affordable events happening across the country for you and your family to enjoy.
The government’s interactive map, which has been viewed more than 76,000 times to date, helps you plan your full half-term activities, including free art exhibitions, paid theater performances and immersive Halloween experiences.
Many of these events are held locally, with more than 2,500 public libraries hosting low-cost or free activities such as LEGO® Clubs, Lime Times, and Stay and Play sessions.
This map is part of the ‘Help for Housings’ campaign, which shares government support available to help with the cost of living. The campaign includes more than 40 schemes offering childcare advice, water and transport discounts and more.

Get into the Halloween spirit at Pontefract Castle, create museum treasures with LEGO® at Derby’s Museum of Making, or hit the beautiful public art trails around Newhaven.

Here are just a few of the free and affordable events hosted by government-funded organizations in your area this half of the year.

Nationwide: Join the Natural History Museum’s latest regional science project, Nature Overheard, as you search for insects on a short stretch of road near you and create a five-minute recording of your surroundings. These recordings can be submitted to museums to better understand how noise pollution affects insects.

North West: Discover the incredible stories of animal heroes who helped fight wars from World War I to the present day at the Imperial War Museum North Family Hub.

Northeast: Great North Museum: Dive into an immersive and spooky adventure and explore museum treasures, local legends, and mythical creatures at Hancock. From creative crafts to spine-tingling trails, there’s something for everyone.

Yorkshire and the Humber: Visit Pontefract Castle and get into the wicked mood with Witches and Wizards October activities. Make fun themed crafts, brew magic potions, and participate in a witchy outdoor festival.

West Midlands: New Art Gallery Walsall has lots of fun free workshops and events for the whole family, from celebrating Diwali and Sunday Art Club to getting creative with holiday workshops .

East Midlands: Tour the Lake District made of LEGO® bricks at the Making Museum in Derby and watch artist John Trudoff create sculptures made from over 200,000 LEGO® pieces.

London: Celebrate the launch of Young V&A’s first exhibition ‘Japan: From Myth to Manga’ by donating a growing origami sculpture or explore the Imagine Gallery to create and dress up a character mosquito.

East of England: Build your holiday fun, move and eat with First Site. Drop-in creative activities for families rotate daily and are available from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
