Remembering Veterans
Saturday is Veterans Day, a day to remember those who have served in this country’s military. It is held to commemorate November 11th, the day the gunfire fell to end World War I (now known as World War I) in 1918. Liquor stores are closed on Saturdays, and no mail is delivered. Since this day is Saturday, Friday is a government holiday. Among the free events being held Saturday to honor veterans is a “Celebration of Veterans” at 9 a.m. at SCERA, 600 S. 400 East, Orem. The flag retirement ceremony will be at 10 a.m. at Memory Grove Park, 375 N. Canyon Road, Salt Lake City. The ceremony will be at 11 a.m. at Draper City Park, 12500 S. 1300 East, Draper. The parade and awards ceremony will begin at 11:11 a.m. along Wasatch Drive and end at Layton Commons Park in Layton.

The Utah Arts Alliance will hold its annual Illuminate Festival, featuring light art and creative technology, on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 11 p.m. at Library Square, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City. Masu. The event will include a STEAM Lab, locally produced silent films screened against the walls of The Leonardo (organized by the Utah Film Center), a pop-up for the Dreamscape exhibit “Dragon’s Labyrinth,” a night market, and live entertainment. Includes stages. Entertainment. A drone show will be held over City Hall both nights at 9 p.m. The event is free.
