Dreaming of a pink Christmas? Thanks to Barbie, you’re in luck. Pink Christmas trees are all the rage this year.
Big box stores like Walmart, Wayfair and Target are cashing in on the pink trend this year, offering hundreds of artificial Christmas trees that typically range from $30 to up to $230.
As Americans increasingly adopt artificial trees that last for years, manufacturers and retailers will need to explore new ways to sell additional trees, said the retail analyst and consultant. Neil Saunders told DailyMail.com.
He said the obvious trend to capitalize on is pink – Behind the scenes of this summer’s blockbuster movie starring Barbie Margot Robbie.
The movie, which grossed more than $1 billion at the box office, boosted sales of all things Barbie-related, including the color pink. People wore more pink and even made pink food.
The photo shows a pink artificial Christmas tree sold at Walmart. The 7-foot-tall tree cost about $75. We also sell upside-down trees, which have become a trend in recent years.

Saunders said there is increasing pressure on manufacturers and retailers to promote trendy artificial trees, which would otherwise disincentivize consumers to replace them.
“Manufacturers are very keen to introduce fashion to the Christmas tree market,” he told DailyMail.com.
“Every year we see something completely different at Christmas, and every year there’s a trend tree,” he said, pointing to old trends like upside-down trees and skinny trees with fewer leaves.
“This has been a pink year,” he added.
“The first one is obviously the Barbie movie. There was also an influence from social media. Paris Hilton posing with a pink Christmas tree and it’s going viral on social media.”
This year’s pink trend is largely inspired by Margot Robbie. Retailers, manufacturers, and retailers were quick to jump on this bandwagon.

According to a poll by the American Christmas Tree Association, 77% of people who have at least one Christmas tree this year have an artificial one.
And artificial trees are better suited to adapt to current trends.
“You can do so much more with wood than with natural wood, where you just stick to what nature gives you,” Saunders said.
“People are also looking for a little novelty and just want to inject a little fun into Christmas.”
