Touch-a-Truck Event Benefits Blawnox Pantry
The Fox Chapel Police Department invites the community to “Look, Touch, Explore and Honk” at its second annual “Touch a Truck” event, which will be held behind the district office at 401 Fox Chapel Road on Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is aimed at all ages and will include emergency vehicles, construction vehicles, tow trucks and more.
Admission is free with a donation of cash or non-perishable food items to the Blawnox Community Food Pantry, which provides food to the Fox Chapel Area School District.
There will also be activities for children.
The garden club fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 16-18.
The Garden Club of Allegheny County will celebrate its 110th anniversary and the 28th anniversary of its boutique shopping event, “Pizza's.” The event will be held Oct. 16-18 at Fox Chapel Golf Club, 426 Fox Chapel Road.
The event raised more than $2 million to fund environmental conservation projects throughout the Pittsburgh region.
This year's event will feature over 30 boutiques from across the UK and Scotland. Products include men's, women's and children's clothing and accessories, jewellery, leather goods, gifts, home décor, linens, personalised stationery, speciality foods and more.
A preview party will be held on Oct. 16 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $150.
Shopping hours are 9:30am to 7pm on Oct. 17 and 9:30am to 1pm on Oct. 18. Admission is $10 each day, or $45 for admission and lunch in the club's Tavern Room from 11:30am to 1pm on Oct. 17 and 18. Advance purchase of lunch tickets is recommended.

AAUW and CCAC Team Up to Advance Women's Careers
The Fox Chapel Area Chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Allegheny County Community College, as the two organizations work together to help young women launch new or expanding careers.
The AAUW conference will be held at the Pavilion at Allegheny River Trail Park in Aspinwall on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. Speaker will be Christina Zuccarelli, scholarship and alumni manager at CCAC.
Zuccarelli talks about the benefits of the partnership and how AAUW’s Career Launching Awards have been embraced by the school’s upperclassmen and returning female students.
Participants will learn how CCAC is changing to help students manage the costs of higher education, get a glimpse into the college’s current student body and their projected outcomes, and Zuccarelli will also work with the admissions department to announce the number of students who may be eligible for AAUW awards in the spring.
Camping trips open to all ages in Aspinwall
Aspinwall is planning a “Sleep Under the Stars” camping trip for all ages on Aug. 30. Aspinwall Firefighters Memorial Park.
Participants are asked to bring camping gear and covered dishes and snacks to share among friends.
Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a movie in the park hosted by the Aspinwall Police Station.
“Trolls: Band Together,” rated PG, begins at 7:30 p.m. Free popcorn will be provided.
Quiet hour begins at 10 p.m.
Tents may be set up any time after 3pm on August 30th and must be removed by 10am on August 31st.
The Sharpsburg Flea Market will be held every Sunday through October
The Sharpsburg Community Flea Market will be held along North Canal and Tenth streets every Sunday through the end of October from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The stall fee is $5 per spot.

Revival celebration set, game room opening soon
Addiction Recovery Ministries invites the community to its third annual Recovery Celebration on Sept. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the John Paul I Center, 201 Ninth St. in Sharpsburg.
The event will honor the work of Rev. Michael Decewicz, who died in November at age 72. A recovered alcoholic, Rev. Decewicz founded and served as president of Addiction Recovery Ministries.
Music, art and refreshments are also available.

Additionally, the department announced that the Michael Decewicz Sober Game Room for people in recovery will open on Sept. 27.

Chamber of Commerce Plans Golf Fundraiser
The Aspinwall Chamber of Commerce will host its 11th annual golf tournament on Sept. 6 at 3 Lakes Golf Course, 6700 Saltsburg Road in Penn Hills.
Cost is $125 per golfer and includes golf cart, lunch and dinner, and beverages served with meals.
Dinner only cost is $40.
The outing raises funds for an annual community event.
Registration is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., with teeing off at 10 a.m. The format is full-course shotgun with lunch at the turn. Dinner is served at 3 p.m.
Prizes are awarded for things like longest drive and shot closest to the pin.

Aspinwall, water pipe inventory management
State Department of Environmental Protection regulations require Aspinwall to complete a borough-wide water pipe inventory by September 30.
Water department personnel need to be able to access property owners’ water meters to inspect plumbing materials coming onto the premises from outside.

The Salvation Army's Fall Fabric Fair
The Salvation Army will host its Fall Fabric Fair on Oct. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship and Service Center, 1060 McNeilly Road in Mount Lebanon.
This popular one-day-only sale is made possible by The Salvation Army's Greater Pittsburgh Women's Auxiliary.
For over 30 years, the twice-yearly (spring and fall) fundraiser has offered discounted prices on rare fabrics, unique patterns and a variety of materials and tools needed for crocheting, knitting, quilting and other “needlework.” The Fabric Fair has raised nearly $750,000 to date, with all proceeds providing vital support to individuals and families throughout Allegheny County.
We recommend arriving early for the best selection, and after exploring inside, you can head outside to enjoy a $10 bag sale with a variety of materials.
Admission is free, there is free parking on-site, and a free shuttle runs from two satellite parking lots at Keystone Oaks High School and Keystone Oaks Middle School. Snacks and lunch items are available for purchase.
Carts and strollers are prohibited and the use of reusable shopping bags is strongly encouraged.
The Fall Fabric Fair is a community-driven event made possible by donations of all items sold. Donated items are always needed, as well as additional volunteers to help measure and sort fabric in preparation for the fair.
Donations are accepted at the Salvation Army warehouse in Green Tree behind 820 Parish St. every Wednesday (February through October) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Fabric donations will not be accepted during the actual Fabric Fair event.

I want pantry items
The Sharpsburg Community Library is in need of items for its Little Free Pantry, located at 1212 Main Street.
Needed items include tomato sauce, pasta, tuna, cereal, macaroni and cheese, fruit snacks, peanut butter, snack packs and shelf-stable milk.
Nonessential items include applesauce, pretzels, fruit cups, pudding, canned soup, canned beans and toiletry products.
Donations can be made during library hours: Monday and Wednesday 1pm to 7pm, Tuesday and Thursday 10am to 5pm, Friday 1pm to 5pm, and Saturday 10am to 2pm.
The pantry is restocked with food three times a week and is supported entirely by donations.

Heartwood Acres wraps up summer concert series
The Summer Concert Series will close out the season with the 24th Annual Allegheny County Music Festival on Sept. 1 at Heartwood Acres Amphitheater (4070 Middle Road).
The festival, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will proceed rain or shine. Local food trucks will be set up on-site at 6 p.m.
The performance will feature two-time Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris singing David Bowie songs accompanied by an all-star Pittsburgh band and special guests Scott Blasey and Rob James of The Clarks.
The festival accepts a $20 donation per vehicle and responds to requests made through the Department of Human Services and the Juvenile Division of the District Court Family Court. Since 2000, the music festival has raised approximately $550,000 for the Allegheny County Music Festival Foundation.
Donations and volunteers needed for Harvest Festival
Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church is seeking donations and volunteers for its Harvest Festival, scheduled for September 5-6.
Most household furniture and clothing are accepted, with the exception of mattresses, bed pillows, textbooks and encyclopedias.
Clothing and shoes must be in good condition and clean. Furniture removal service is available.
Drop-offs can be made on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.
People should come to the Springhouse Lane side of the church.
The committee is also looking for volunteers to help sort and prepare donations.
This huge undertaking requires a lot of manpower.
Proceeds will benefit local charities, including the Sharpsburg Youth Empowerment Project, women's and children's health organizations, shelters and food banks.

Sharpsburg seeks volunteers for bicentennial celebration
Sharpsburg will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2026.
Residents interested in planning events or volunteering can apply to be part of the borough's Bicentennial Committee.

Group offers weight loss support
Everyone is welcome to join Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) men and women who are learning how to lose weight.
Knowledge about healthy eating and exercise is gained through face-to-face meetings, rewards, support and encouragement.
It's free and open to the public every Tuesday from 5:45pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. The weigh-in is private and will be followed by a short business meeting, sharing time and an educational program, all wrapping up by 7:15pm.

Call for applications for Sports Hall of Fame nominees begins
Nominations are currently being accepted for the Sharpsburg Sports Hall of Fame.
Nominations can be made by any player, team or team builder such as a coach, equipment manager, announcer or anyone who has had a major impact on a team. All sports are open.
Candidates must have lived in the borough at some point.
The Sharpsburg Historical Commission plans to induct three individuals and one team into the Hall of Fame. Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 31, with the induction ceremony to take place in the fall.
