The Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents which occurred between August 15th and August 22nd, 2024. Due to length, this report has been divided into five parts. This is the fourth part. Please note that an arrest or indictment does not mean a conviction.
- Suspicious Vehicle – Dunkin Donuts – Regarding a Sprinter van that was parked at the location for an extended period of time. The owner was contacted and the owner moved the van at the request of the property manager.
- Attempted Burglary – N Midland Ave – Screen door broken and lock on shed reportedly broken. Reported to CID. Report prepared.
- Warrant Attempt – Carwood Dr – Attempt to locate a named female suspect. She was subsequently found on Booth Dr and taken into custody.
- Juvenile complaint – E Church Street, Pilot Park – Six juveniles causing a disturbance and using foul language within earshot of other people and children. Upon arrival no disturbance or foul language was seen or heard. Spoke with the juveniles and explained City Ordinance 62-4(a)(2). The juveniles agreed not to use foul language in front of others while in the park.
- Suicide/DOA – Stonecreek Way – Regarding a grandfather found dead inside his home by his grandson. The body was found with a gunshot wound to the head. CID on duty was notified and responded to the scene along with the Crime Scene and Walton County Coroner. A report was prepared.
- Dispute – GW Carver Dr – Multiple children around 8 years old not getting along, parents on scene, both sides have agreed the children will get along well.
- Shoplifting – John's Supermarket – An unknown white male stole merchandise from the store. Prior to officers arriving on scene, the male shoved the victim and fled the store on a bicycle. The male's whereabouts are unknown. Video footage obtained.
- Traffic Stop/Arrest – Pine Park Street/Davis Street – The suspect was stopped for a traffic violation. The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of reckless stunt driving and DUI. The vehicle was turned over to Taylors and the suspect was turned over to the Alton County Sheriff's Office.
- Suspicious vehicle – Matthews Park – Two individuals on scene sleeping in vehicle. Park closed overnight, advise to move on. All normal.
- Suspicious Person – E Marable and N Midland – A named person was seen walking through a yard with a warrant for their arrest. They were taken into custody without incident.
- Building with inadequate security measures – W. Spring St., Truist Bank – Regarding a building with inadequate security measures, the utility/power room/closet in the rear of the building had inadequate security measures. The door was closed and locked. I spoke with an employee on site and it was fine.
- Suspicious Vehicle – Hwy 78 and Charlotte Lowell – WCSO reported a red passenger vehicle failing to maintain lane and the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Contact was made with the driver on Charlotte Lowell Road and the suspect was arrested for DUI and drug use. The vehicle was towed by Taylors.
- Traffic Block – Sorrels and Maple Streets – Anonymous complainant reported a construction company had blocked off lanes at the curve at Maple and Sorrels without any signs. A company was pouring concrete on the sidewalk at Cook Street apartments, but instead of a curve, they blocked the lanes with orange cones. Traffic was moving appropriately around this.
- Theft – West Spring Street, Walmart – On 8/10/2024, a white female attempted to steal over $3,600 worth of items.
- Minors – Pilot Park. 3 minors were on site causing a disturbance. Contacted and advised on what to do. All ok.
- Loud Music/Alteration – Tanglewood Ln; – Complainant reported hearing loud music from a neighbor. It was determined that the complainant was reporting an altercation that occurred. Civil remedies were recommended. Officers responded a second time shortly after finishing the first call.
- Suspicious Person/Drug Arrest – Intersection of South Madison Avenue and Davis Street: Suspect was stopped as he matched the description of a shoplifting suspect from a previous call for service. Suspect was in possession of methamphetamine, a DRO was found and he was arrested.
- Dispute – South Broad Street – Arrived on scene regarding a female attempting to remove a child. A DFACS case has been opened and DFACS has been notified. A safety plan has been implemented. All is good.
- Suspicious Person/Arrest – Pine Park Street – A person matching the description of the suspect from the last theft was seen at John's Supermarket. The suspect was seen wearing the same clothing as the suspect from the last date in video footage. The suspect noticed officers and attempted to flee but was quickly located and taken into custody. The suspect was fingerprinted at MPD and transported to WCSO.
