SOUDERTON — Recent and upcoming school events were discussed at the Oct. 26 Souderton Area School Board meeting.
Superintendent Frank Gallagher said in a report to the board that more than 600 tickets were sold at the tailgate before the football game, more than 1,500 students attended the homecoming dance, and the recent high school homecoming The coming event was touted as a success. He also announced the launch of high school clubs, including a new cornhole club, a veterans breakfast and SAVE recycling event scheduled for Nov. 4, and the official launch of Sudderton Area School District’s Instagram page. .
Student representatives Colin Hughes and Aiden Kearns will celebrate Shakespeare Day featuring a performance of Romeo and Juliet, the crowning of the boys cross country team as league champions, the impending end of the grading period, Thanksgiving break, and winter sports. The board also played a video about Indian Crest Middle School’s recent Day of Service event. The event featured community service projects, obstacle courses, and fundraisers for local families in need. The event raised more than $11,000 for him.
The conference concluded with recognition of several students. Students Maya Herrlinger and Jeremy Evans were recognized for their participation in the Thermo-Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge. Herringer completed a behavioral science project on cheating in the classroom, and Evans completed a botany project on the effects of ultraviolet radiation on germination in the ocean. Both students were ranked among the top 300 junior innovators in the nation.
The board of directors includes Amanda Yang, Rahul Hegde, Aaron Jones, Aidan Kearns, Armand Khatri, Ariel Levin, Daniel Levin, Ashley Paturzo, Justin Stauffer, Gabriella Stone, and Brian Wu. Recognized high school national merit scholarship recipients.
