The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism will host a lunch and learn at the Champaign County Library on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. about the county business loan program offered by the Springfield Small Business Development Center. . Lunch is available for $15.
national charity day event
The Greater Springfield Society of Fundraising Professionals (GSAFP) will host and celebrate its annual National Day of Philanthropy on Wednesday from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at the Ohio Masonic Home Festival Green in Springfield.
The keynote speaker will be Susie Carey, Executive Director of the Springfield Foundation.
The winners will be Gordon Food Service for Outstanding Philanthropy, Leadership Clark County for Outstanding Nonprofit Organization, and Tom Loftis for Outstanding Individual Fundraising. .

conspiracy theory discussion
Wittenberg University’s Margaret Armals Institute for the Humanities will host “Conspiracy Theories: Assessing Belief and Disbelief” with Kelly Ansley in the Guyer Room of the Clark County Public Library on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Conspiracy theories are growing in popularity, and many people want to know what’s really going on. Find out more about conspiracy theories, including a discussion of what the word conspiracy theory means. Participants will also address questions about the nature of evidence, rationality, and justified belief within an equally critical and thoughtful framework of conspiracy theory beliefs.
veterans breakfast
The Champaign Family YMCA’s annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast event will be held Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Y lobby.
Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, and eggs made by YMCA staff and volunteers. YMCA Preschool students will also perform patriotic songs and recite the Pledge of Allegiance at 9:15 a.m.
Member Dorothy Case will be honored with this year’s Rising Local Veteran. The case is from 1989 until 1992 when she completed active duty in the United States Air Force at WPAFB. She served in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1992 until her retirement in 2009, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

Grant information session
The Community Health Foundation (CHF) is inviting nonprofit organizations working on health-related issues in Clark and Champaign counties to submit applications for responsive grants. Submitted applications will be reviewed after the January 26, 2024 deadline.
Eligible organizations must provide health and wellness programs that focus on the community’s priority needs, including healthy living. Chronic disease prevention and management. Maternal, infant, and sexual health. Mental health and substance abuse. and housing and neighborhood stability.
The grant information session will be held in person at CHF on Thursday at 10 a.m. To register, please contact Faith Bosland at fbosland@mercy.com. A session is required for first-time users. All applicants are encouraged to participate.

Don Sanders’ free talk, “AI in Food Processing,” will be held for the public at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Champaign Air Museum in Urbana.
This talk will address many of the problems in food production that Sanders said can be solved using tomorrow’s solutions using artificial intelligence-assisted processes.
soup dinner
Grace United Methodist Church, 1401 W. Main St., will hold its annual soup supper on Thursday. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and dinner is served from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Takeout is also possible.
The soups offered are chili, ham, beans and vegetables, cornbread, coleslaw, and various desserts.
aging program
A free program to help seniors stay healthy in their later years is being offered at the Urbana-Champaign County Senior Center and will feature several Mercy Health experts.
The Aging Mastery Program (AMP) is a series of one-hour sessions that help older adults learn more about the important steps they can take to improve their health, provide stability in their lives, and strengthen bonds in their communities. We will be holding our final speaker series.
The final speaker series offered through the Area Agency on Aging (PSA 2) will be held Thursday with Abby Martinez on Fall Prevention.
