January 6, 2021 The promise of great public education is built on a foundation of healthy, safe, supportive, and fun schools, students, and families. Addressing the social and emotional needs of our students and communities has never been more obvious or urgent. We are proud to launch this first-ever statewide social and emotional learning framework to help us navigate this unprecedented moment in education history. Using this as a guide, we positioned ourselves to ensure that New Mexico schools are fully committed to the important and honest work of meeting the needs of the whole child. We train and support educators. We look forward to working with students and families. We invest in the systems and infrastructure that children need and deserve so they can thrive. 7 Mindsets, a leader in online social-emotional learning (SEL) solutions, and the New Mexico Department of Public Instruction have partnered to make free SEL resources available through a new online state portal. Second Step Second Step is a program rooted in social-emotional learning (SEL) that helps transform schools into supportive, successful learning environments uniquely equipped to help children thrive.
