SILVER CREEK — The Black Knights are used to seeing touchdowns and field goals at home, but this was their first time seeing group story time on the football field.
Reading Under the Lights was a successful kickoff to the Silver Creek Family Outreach-School Connectedness team’s 23-24 school year event.
Approximately 200 children, teachers, staff, administrators, and volunteers gathered on the soccer field to participate in this fun, family-friendly event.
The night started with walking the newly repaved track, tossing a football, and enjoying tailgate treats provided by the Silver Creek Football Boosters. William Reynolds, dressed as a football player, served as master of ceremonies for the evening, announcing the time to grab a blanket and a good book.
The Silver Creek school library provided books for families to borrow and read aloud to groups of older students and teacher volunteers.
“There were a lot of smiles, laughter and connections.” District Administrator Delia Bohnenberger said.
The Family Support and School Connections team would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this event.
“And thank you to the Silver Creek Forestville Black Knights Football Modified and Varsity players who came out to help. It’s a great way for upperclassmen to interact with juniors and show them they still enjoy reading. By bringing literacy and athletics together for one night, we were able to showcase two of the great things happening in our district.” said committee member Christine McChesney.
The team’s mission is to continue providing opportunities for family involvement throughout the school year. Family Outreach-School Connectedness has more events planned and will be announced later in the school year.
