The most wonderful time of the year has begun on the lower Hudson River. From light shows to holiday markets, here are some local events to get you in the holiday spirit.
What’s happening in the Hudson Valley this winter?
- Historic Hudson Valley will be held victorian christmas celebration It will be held at Washington Irving’s Sunnyside Estate in Sleepy Hollow on Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature holiday activities that will take you back to the 19th century, including making crafts such as paper cones and ornaments, and drinking wassail and hot chocolate. Sample some delicious sweets from that time. Historian Pamela McCall will be signing copies of her book, “This Is the Night: The Art and History of Classic Christmas Poetry,” and will give a presentation on the famous poem at the 200th anniversary event. 3 W. - west chester Winter Wonderland Drive Thru Holiday Lights Extravaganza The Kenshiko Dam Plaza event is open from November 24th. It runs from 5:30pm to 8:45pm Monday through Thursday, and from 4pm on weekends until December 31st. Drive two miles of twinkling lights. Admire the sculptures through Rudolph’s runway to the North Pole, meeting winter friends like Snowball the elf along the way. Participants will not be allowed to leave their vehicles during the drive-thru. Tickets are $35 per vehicle. 1 Bronx River Parkway Road, Valhalla.
- Featuring storyteller Jonathan Crook Adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” Held at the historic Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow on Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 17 at 2:30 p.m., 3:45 p.m., and 5 p.m. Tickets are $47 for adults and $42 for children. 430 Broadway, Sleepy Hollow.
- Phillipsburg Manor will host a Holiday Boutique on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., through Dec. 17. Historic Hudson Valley will also be hosting special events at the boutique, including a holiday tea party and cake, on Dec. 9 from noon to 3 p.m. Pop Decorating December 16th from noon to 3pm Tickets for his tea party are $20 and tickets for the Cake Pop Decorating class are $35. 381 N. - The train arrived at Ladson Park and Arboretum for the annual Holidays on the Hill annual train show, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Dec. 31. The whole family can enjoy the scenery of a winter wonderland and view model trains on 12 multi-car trains. – Level tracks driving through picturesque holiday scenes. Children can also visit Santa’s house in the greenhouse and deliver letters to the Elf Post Office. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for children ages 2 to her 12, and children under 2 are free. 2610 Route 35, Katanah.
- Muscoot Farm in Katonah welcomes visitors. Holiday Lights on the Farm The event will be held Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 8pm. People can observe farm animals in decorated barns while listening to holiday stories and participating in activities throughout the farm. Admission is $6. Register on the website to get your tickets. 51 Rt. 100, Katonah.
- Yonkers’ Downtown/Waterfront Business Improvement District will hold its third annual Winter Market on Saturday, Dec. 16, from noon to 5 p.m. There will be a free ice skating rink, live music, snow globe photo ops, and more than 20 local vendors. Indoor activities take place at Sawyer Place and outdoor activities take place at Van der Donk Park. 25 Warburton Avenue, Yonkers.
