Senator Matthew Samuda, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, will address Jamaica’s environmental issues at the 23rd session of the Latin American and Caribbean Environment Ministers’ Forum, scheduled for October 24-26 in Panama. is to lead.
The Forum’s primary role is to provide a venue for governments in the region to establish environmental priorities and collaborate in the implementation of programs, projects and approaches to address those priorities.
Minister Samuda, who has portfolio responsibility for the environment, said such regional dialogue was necessary to foster cooperation on common environmental challenges.
“Many successful partnerships have been forged within the region at different levels to address common environmental priorities and challenges. For example, the region has been working to reduce deforestation, promote renewable energy, Great progress has been made in improving air quality. The forum will also serve as a regional conference for discussions and preparations of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries on sustainable development, feeding into the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA).
The event will be attended by high-level representatives from regional governments, multilateral environmental agreement secretariats, research and academic societies, civil society organizations, and regional and global development cooperation agencies.
