– In an interview with TV Insider, WWE NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez spoke about her title defense at NXT No Mercy this weekend, her expectations for WWE Evolution II, and more. Here are some highlights:
On how Perez first discovered CM Punk: “He's such an inspiration. I grew up watching him. So it's great to have him now and be under his tutelage and get so much advice from him. He always stops by NXT. [premium live events] “He sits down and watches the whole show and then gives us all advice after the game. It's not something he has to do, he just does it. I'm so grateful for him. He's so amazing. I've learned so much from him already and I can't wait to continue learning from him.”
On the atmosphere at main roster shows: “It's awesome. I love the environment. Every time I go there I feel like I want to go there one day. It's awesome. It's amazing to be surrounded by people I looked up to. It's amazing to be surrounded by people I looked up to, but this is where I belong and where I was always meant to be. It feels great.”
Roxanne Perez had this to say about her opponent, Jada Parker: “I think it's cool to be 22 and play a veteran. Jada is amazing. She's only been here a year or so. It's incredible how much she's grown and how far she's come in a year. I wasn't in WWE. [premium live event] “She's a champion within a year of starting wrestling. I respect her. I'm looking forward to wrestling her. Sorry, Jada, your time is not yet here. You're going to be a champion. She has the confidence and the aura. She has it all. But she's not a genius.”
Her thoughts on another WWE women-only event: “I'd love to do it. I've been waiting for Evolution II for a long time, and maybe now I could be a part of it. I first watched it when I was probably 15 or 16, watching it on my couch, and I've been itching to be a part of it one day. So yeah, hopefully Evolution II will happen. How about me against Bayley or something?”
Roxanne Perez will defend her title against Jada Parker at WWE NXT No Mercy on Sunday, September 1. The event will take place at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado and will be broadcast live on Peacock.
