PLAINS, Ga. — Family, friends, Georgians and people around the world will begin to say goodbye to former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
Monday is the first of three full days of memorial services for Carter, who died this month at age 96.
Monday’s events begin in the Carter family’s hometown of Plains and end in Atlanta, followed by a ceremony at Emory University on Tuesday and a funeral in Plains on Wednesday.

Monday schedule
Flowers laid at Georgia Southwestern State University and interment at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.
10:25 a.m.: The Carter family motorcade arrives at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus. Mrs. Carter’s remains will be transferred to a hearse along with past and present members of the U.S. Secret Service.
10:40 a.m.: The motorcade leaves the medical center grounds and heads to Georgia Southwestern State University in nearby Americus, Georgia. The public is invited to pay their respects along the motorcade route, which will be shared later.
11 a.m.: The motorcade arrives at Georgia Southwestern State University’s Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex, where a wreath will be laid.
Travel from Americus to Atlanta
11:15 a.m.: The motorcade departs for the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta.
3:15 p.m.: Arrival ceremony at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.
3:30 p.m.: Repose service in the lobby of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.
6-10 p.m.: The Carter family invites the public to mourn Mrs. Carter as she rests at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. Parking and shuttles are available at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 435 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta.
Condolence books may be signed at Georgia Southwestern State University, the Plains Welcome Center, Plains High School, and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

The motorcade will depart from Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in the Americus, where a brief departure ceremony will be held with former members of the Secret Service. The motorcade then headed to Georgia Southwestern State University, Carter’s alma mater, to lay flowers.
The motorcade will drive next to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta for a private arrival ceremony and service for museum and Carter Center staff.
The public can line up along the motorcade route to pay their respects.
The public is invited to watch the motorcade along its route and mourn as Mrs. Carter’s body lies in state in the lobby of the library and museum on Monday from 6 to 10 p.m. Buses will pick up mourners from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, NE 436 Peachtree St., and shuttle them to their final resting place.
