It’s not your imagination. Even if you carefully follow your monthly budget, groceries are becoming more and more expensive.
In this YouTube video, money expert Rachel Crews takes a deep dive into the three retailers where most people buy their groceries (Costco, Aldi, and Walmart) to find the best deals on the groceries you buy most often. We suggest where you can buy it.
soda
The formula for calculating bulk soda purchases is as follows:
- Walmart: $3.68 for a 12-pack of 12-ounce cans.
- Aldi: $3.49 for a 12-pack of 12-ounce cans.
- Costco: $12.59 for a pack of 35 12-ounce cans.
After reviewing this calculation, Cruz said the grocery chain that would emerge as the winner for soda is Aldi.
grain
Cruze compared the different types of Cheerios available at the following chains:
- Great deals on Honey Nut O’s (Walmart): $1.29 for a 21.6 oz box.
- Crispy Oats (Aldi): $2.27 for a 12 oz box
- Cheerios (Costco): $6.29 for 2 boxes (40 oz total)
“When you look at all the costs per ounce, Walmart is the winner because they have 21.6 ounces,” Cruz said.
frozen dinner
This is a look at the different sheet pan meals sold at each grocery store.
- Walmart: $7.97 for 31 oz.
- Aldi: $5.79 for 24 oz.
- Costco: $11.99 for 56 oz.
Mr. Cruz said Costco wins in this area.
chips
- Walmart: $2.37 for a 15-ounce bag
- Aldi: $1.88 for a 10-ounce bag
- Costco: $5.29 for a 32-ounce bag.
If you look at the price per ounce, Costco is a better deal.
milk
- Walmart: $3.32 per gallon
- Aldi: $2.97 for 1 gallon
- Costco: $3.62 per gallon.
Aldi is obviously the cheapest.
egg
- Walmart: $2.90 for 12 eggs
- Aldi: $2.99 āāfor 12 eggs.
- Costco: 2 dozen eggs for $4.29
Which retailer has the highest value for eggs? After doing the math, Cruz says it’s Costco. Costco’s price for 12 eggs is $2.14, which is 76 cents cheaper than 12 eggs at Walmart.
peanut butter
- Walmart: $3.47 for 40 oz.
- Aldi: $3.39 for 40 oz.
- Costco: $9.99 for 46 oz (2-pack)
The winner is Aldi at 8.5 cents per ounce.
jelly
Cruise also included the cost per ounce when listing the price of the jelly.
- Walmart: $2.28 for 30 ounces (7.6 cents per ounce)
- Aldi: $2.25 for 30 ounces (7.5 cents per ounce)
- Costco: $8.99 for 42 ounces (21 cents per ounce)
And according to Cruz, the winner is Aldi.
packaged meat
In this category, Cruz focused on the popular pre-sliced āāturkey.
- Walmart: $6.98 for 16 oz.
- Aldi: $5.39 for 16 oz.
- Costco: $17.05 for just over 1 pound
At 34 cents per ounce, the winner is Aldi.
banana
- Walmart: 57 cents per pound
- Aldi: 61 cents per pound
- Costco: $1.59 for 3 lbs.
Costco’s price reached 53 cents per pound, outperforming Walmart.
broccoli
- Walmart: $1.62 for 1 pound
- Aldi: $2.79 for 1 pound
- Costco: $2.99 āāfor 1 pound
After looking at different types of broccoli, including fresh and frozen broccoli, the winner was Walmart.
bread
- Walmart: $1 for 20 oz.
- Aldi: 99 cents for 20 oz.
- Costco: $4.69 for 40 ounces (2 loaves)
Walmart and Aldi are 5 cents per ounce.
coffee
- Walmart: $2.98 for 11 oz.
- Aldi: $6.49 for 30.5 oz.
- Costco: $15.99 for 3 pounds
Aldi was the winner at 21 cents per ounce.
cookie
- Walmart: $2.08 for 13 oz.
- Aldi: $1.49 for 13 oz.
- Costco: $9.99 for 23 oz.
Mr. Cruz said he looked at three popular grocery stores for chocolate chip cookies and said Aldi was the winner at 11 cents an ounce.
sliced āācheese
- Walmart: $1.98 for 12 oz.
- Aldi: $3.89 for 16 oz.
- Costco: $7.99 for 32 oz.
The winner is Walmart, which costs 16 cents an ounce.
bottled water
- Walmart: $3.48 for 24 packs.
- Aldi: $3.79 for a 24-pack.
- Costco: $4.19 for 40 packs.
“Costco is definitely the winner here,” Cruz said.
chocolate chips
- Walmart: $1.98 for 12 oz.
- Aldi: $1.89 for 12 oz.
- Costco: $9.99 for 72 oz.
The winner is Costco! Cruz said this is because the price per ounce equates to about 13 cents per ounce.
breakfast bar
- Walmart: $1.74 for a 6-pack.
- Aldi: $1.43 for 6-pack
- Costco: $14.59 for 48 packs.
The winner at 24 cents per bar is Aldi.
hot dog
- Walmart: $4.22 for 15 oz.
- Aldi: 79 cents for 12 oz.
- Costco: $13.99 for 3.8 lbs.
Aldi was the winner, dropping the price to just 8 cents an ounce.
