Police said an armed suspect tried to rob a woman's car at a Louisville Walmart, leading to a police officer shooting and killing the suspect. According to Louisville Police, it started Wednesday afternoon when Kentucky State Police began pursuing a driver with expired license plates, a suspended license and an active arrest warrant on Gene Snyder Boulevard. Police said the vehicle exited New Cut Boulevard and collided with another vehicle. Officers were able to arrest the driver, Jeremy Daniel Bozarth, but the passenger jumped out of the car and fled. According to Louisville Police Chief Paul Humphrey, the passenger, armed with a handgun, ran into a crowded Walmart on the Outer Loop. When officers found the passenger, he jumped out of the car and attempted to rob a woman's car as she was waiting in line at the drive-thru pharmacy. According to Humphrey, the passenger was sitting in the passenger seat when police caught up with him. After giving the passenger several verbal commands, the officer shot him multiple times through the glass window. Police said the officer's injuries were not life-threatening and he will be charged. His name has not yet been released. Humphrey said the woman was shaken but not injured. She was in line to receive medication at the time. WLKY saw the car decorated with birthday balloons and at least four bullet holes in the windshield. “Let this be a lesson that LMPD works to keep people safe. This is the type of heroism we expect from our officers,” Humphrey said. Humphrey said the officer will be placed on paid administrative reassignment until the investigation is complete. LMPD is urging people to avoid the area.
