Four people were injured in a shooting at the Beavercreek Walmart on Monday night.
Here’s what we know so far:
- Beavercreek Police Lt. Scott Molnar said the man entered the store around 8:35 p.m. Monday and began firing shots before fatally shooting him. Troopers say there is no remaining threat. “We can confirm that the shooter is deceased. It appears that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Molnar said.
- No officers fired at the suspect at the scene, Molnar said.
- As of late Monday night, no information had been released regarding the identity of the shooter or the injured.
- According to a hospital spokesperson, Soin Medical Center admitted three patients due to the incident. She declined to disclose her symptoms, citing patient privacy. Beavercreek police were unaware of their circumstances.
- Beavercreek police are reviewing security footage from inside the store to learn more about what happened in the minutes before, during and after the shooting.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families affected by this terrible tragedy,” Beavercreek Police said in a social media post.
Several law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded to the store, 3360 Pentagon Blvd. Located in Greene County. That included the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. the FBI and several local police and sheriff’s offices.
“The structure has been cleared and secured,” a social media post from the Beavercreek Police Department said Monday around 9:30 p.m. “There is no active threat at this time. Beavercreek Police are investigating and will release additional information as it becomes available.”
A Walmart representative referred questions to local law enforcement, saying, “We are saddened by what happened at our Beavercreek, Ohio store. The matter remains evolving and we are working closely with law enforcement authorities on the scene.” “We are doing so,” he issued a statement.
Jim Smith makes Subway sandwiches in the grocery side of the store. Around 8:30 p.m., he was closing up his shop when he heard gunshots coming from behind.
“I was taking out the trash at the time. I heard the shots, but it sounded like a pellet gun in the meat aisle. So I stayed near the trash can until everyone left.” he said. I could still hear the gunshots. ”
Nearby Wright State University issued a campus-wide safety alert warning people to stay away from stores.
The Walmart is the same store where Beavercreek police shot and killed 22-year-old Fairfield resident John Crawford III in 2014.
