“Giorgio Galimberti: Shadow Alchemy” is part of the program of side events held during the PhotoVogue Festival.
The exhibition “Giorgio Galimberti: Alchemy of the Shadows” at Still Fotografia, curated by Alessandro Curti, features around 40 photographs and provides a visual representation of the most important moments of the Meda-born artist. I can talk about it clearly.
Always maintaining a balance between reality and imagination, Galimberti invites us into the world of everyday life and perceptive and abstract images in an endless movement that recalls the concept of futuristic dynamism. The artist challenges the fixation of a single perspective and attempts to reach an almost impossible perspective, thus creating realist images born of unstable references and visual connections. In the dream-like, mystical atmosphere, the influence of metaphysical and constructivist artistic currents is evident, resulting in a universe where time seems to stand still, as in the paintings of De Chirico and Cara. This dream-like character is balanced by the graphic properties of the image, which remind us of the precision and clarity of Rodchenko’s work. The relationship with reality established through visual stimulation is at the heart of this exhibition. Galimberti delves into objects, landscapes and architecture, capturing their essence through their surfaces and materials.
“This exhibition is the first to look back on the career of Giorgio Galimberti, who has been active in Italian photography for almost 20 years.” Curator Alessandro Curti says: “We seek to encapsulate this artist’s story, inspiration, and experience. The title ‘Shadow Alchemy’ explores the opposite ends of the color spectrum, with an interpretation that conveys clear symbolic and emotional meaning. In his autobiographical stories, Galimberti plays with the underlying dualism of light and darkness, addressing the contrasts of opposites and the complexities of human experience.”
