Brenda Crews will become vice chancellor for Empowered Learning after 11 years as director of state assessment, accountability and academic measurement for the Leander Independent School District. The board approved her for the role during its Thursday meeting.
“I am pleased to have Brenda Cruz step into the role of vice chancellor for Empowered Learning,” said Superintendent Dr. Bruce Gearing. “Throughout her career in LISD, Brenda has built strong relationships and partnerships with principals, and I look forward to watching her work alongside these leaders as she guides them to ensure students are prepared for anything.”
Mr. Crews has extensive experience in educational administration in the Leander Independent School District, having served as Principal at Grandview Hills Elementary School and Vice Principal at Cedar Park Middle School and Winckley Elementary School. During his tenure as Director of State Assessment, Accountability and Academic Measures, Mr. Crews led the development and expansion of the district's Community-Based Accountability System. In 2024, he served as co-lead of the statewide 2024 Texas Public Accountability Consortium design team. Additionally, he developed and implemented professional learning aligned with state assessment, accountability and strategic application of campus and district data.
“I am very excited about my new role with Leander Independent School District and look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with staff, students and parents and empower all of us on our learning journey,” Crews said. “Learning knows no boundaries and each of us is empowered to take ownership of our own learning while also helping others navigate the opportunities that lie before us. This is an exciting time and future for all of us, and I am honored to be a part of the Leander Independent School District learning community.”
Mr. Crews completed his undergraduate studies at Southwest Texas State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and then went on to earn a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Texas State University.
