The former Walmart Supercenter building at 1229 NW Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette was previously acquired by Completeful and is back on the market.
As noted in this report from The Advocate, dropshipping fulfillment service Completeful purchased the property of a closed Walmart in 2021.
Officials say complications related to building codes during the inspection process may have prevented the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) from securing a portion of the building for permanent storage in late 2022. The development follows a report in the Daily Advertiser, which suggested LPSS had an interest in the property.
The building spans 228,569 total square feet on 24.59 acres of land and is currently listed on the LACDB.com website as a light industrial warehouse and distribution data host. Listing details highlight features such as an Opportunity Zone location, fiber gigabit internet connectivity and the possibility to subdivide the building into his 100,000 square foot sections. The total amount is $6,000,000, and the terms of the sale are cash payment to the seller.
The former Walmart store is very important to the local community. Completeful’s acquisition was initially celebrated as a landmark investment for the North Lafayette area, which has seen significant disinvestment in recent years. Completeful’s ambitious plans included expanding its daily order capacity from 5,000 orders to 30,000 orders per day, and processing more than 1 million orders per year.
At the time, City Councilman Glenn Lazard commented on the acquisition, saying, “This project will be transformative for North Lafayette and the city as a whole.”
Completeful’s desire to revitalize the area and provide employment opportunities for the local community was highly anticipated. With the building now available again, listings say there remains hope for other ventures to take advantage of the site’s potential, along with Complete Full.
