The Ohio University College of Health Sciences and Professions presented the Dean’s Recognition Award to spring graduate Connor Kersey of Chillicothe, Ohio, and the Student Social Work Association of Chillicothe, Ohio, during a virtual ceremony on April 27, 2023.
The Student Social Work Association (SSWA) of Chillicothe, Ohio, received an award for outstanding contributions to the greater community. The group has close ties to local organizations and is deeply involved in the Ross County community.
“Even during the COVID-19 shutdown, SSWA has tried to stay involved, including preparing Friday meals at the Ross County Recovery Center,” said Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Ohio Chillicothe and SSWA said advisor Stacey Sanders Adams. “SSWA leaders and students have established a strong reputation for his Chillicothe, Ohio social work program as community helpers.”
Ms. Kersey received the “Outstanding Contributor to Student Organization – Unsung Hero” award for her contributions to the Student Social Work Association (SSWA) and community at Ohio University Chillicothe. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work and was a participant in the Ohio State Honors Program. While earning his degree, Kersey worked part-time for the Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities, where he also gained clinical experience in the social work program. He plans to transition into a full-time role with the organization after graduation.
“Mr. Connor has demonstrated incredible leadership within SSWA and among his colleagues,” said Sanders-Adams. “He initiated and executed his SSWA activities to ensure their success and has taken the lead in hosting events on campus that raise awareness of important social issues. We planned and hosted a rally on campus to support them.”
