The first player in the 2025 class to commit to the Notre Dame football team is playing at another high school this year and is thriving there.
When Davion Dixon joined the Notre Dame football team in April, he became the Fighting Irish’s first recruit in the 2025 class. When he pulled the trigger, I’m sure Golden Dormer fans weren’t expecting Dixon to take an interesting path to South Bend.
Pulling the trigger on the Notre Dame football program is just one of the big changes in Dixon’s life this year. During the offseason, the four-star defensive lineman also changed high schools, going from Belen Jesuit to Miami Palmetto.
This type of change can be stressful for players, but Dixon seems to have adapted fairly quickly and smoothly.
Dixon recently spoke to Irish Breakdown about how well the rotation of defensive linemen is going.
“It was really great. They welcomed me with open arms, but I knew I had to fight for my position. We worked all summer and… It’s been a struggle. It took me a few days to get used to it, but I started getting comfortable right away. Once I got into the groove, things were going well.”
Notre Dame football’s commitment to change
Miami Palmetto is one absolutely talented team. This allowed Dixon to set individual goals as well as team goals during his junior season.
Notre Dame football officials said one of their goals is to record 10 sacks this season. Halfway through the season, he’s more than halfway there. As of this week, he has six sacks and needs four more to reach his goal.
Notre Dame football fans will be happy to hear that his team goal is to make the playoffs. We’ll have to wait and see if he can accomplish that later this season.
