NOPD is asking the public to stop by various district events on Halloween night (October 31, 2023) to celebrate the spooky season. Some neighborhoods host parties and trunk-or-treat events, while others work with neighborhood organizations. Here is a list of events by district: District 1: Officers will attend the Faubourg St. John District event in Bayou St. John from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. District 2: 3401 Broadway St., Officer passes out. Candy will be handed out to children who stop by the station, and police officers will also go out into neighborhoods to hand out candy. Precinct 3: 4650 Paris Ave., officers will be out in various neighborhoods handing out candy to children who stop by the station. event. Precinct 4: 2405 Sanctuary Drive, a police officer and her costumed PCAB staff will be distributing candy and food donated by police officers, COPS 4 organizations, Walgreens and neighborhood associations. 5th Precinct: 3900 N. Claiborne Ave., police officer 6th Precinct: 1930 Martin Luther King Blvd., police officer hands out candy at the intersection of South Rampart Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Outside District 6 Station. District 7: 10101 Dwyer Rd., Police Officers will be holding a trunk-or-treat-him event at the station from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Precinct 8: 334 Royal Street, a police officer hands out candy to children. Here are some tips to keep you and your child safe. ● If your child is allowed to go out after dark, add reflective tape to their costumes and bags, or give them psyllium. ● Have a responsible adult accompany young children on neighborhood patrols. Older children will be going alone, so plan and consider a route that is acceptable to you● Agree on a specific time for your child to return home● Make sure your child never enters a stranger’s house or car Teach your child to move only in familiar, well-lit areas and be with friends.● Tell your child not to eat snacks until you get home. If you are driving: ● Be aware of children walking on roadways, neutral grounds, and curbs. ● Be careful when entering and exiting private roads and alleys. ● Be careful of pedestrians. Some may emerge from between parked cars or behind shrubbery. Stop and wait for it to pass. ●Do not look at your mobile phone while driving. You must always pay attention to the road. ●If you see a drunk driver on the road, please call 911.
