Boulder – The seventh-ranked Colorado Buffaloes return to action Tuesday (6 p.m. Montana time) when they host Boston University at the CU Events Center. This will be CU’s third home contest of the young season.
Colorado State (6-1) suffered its first loss of the season to No. 10 North Carolina State on Saturday. The Buffs finished with a 2-1 overall record in last week’s Paradise Jam Classic, playing against Cincinnati, Kentucky and North Carolina State in three consecutive days.
With the loss to North Carolina State, CU dropped four spots in the rankings from No. 3 to No. 7. This is her third consecutive week in the top 10 for CU, and the most consecutive weeks since she spent five weeks in the top 10. From November 27th to December 18th, 1995.
“If you look at the schedule, we played five Power 5 teams, six if you include SMU.” [going to the ACC next season] in our seven games,” said the head coach. JR Payne He explained. “We only have two home games yet. It’s all a tremendous challenge in three weeks. Probably.” [voters] When I saw that, I realized that it was really difficult work. We are excited to be in the top 10. We just want to play great basketball and improve on what we did last time and play better.”
Last season, the Buffs didn’t lose consecutive games until mid-February, and even after losing, they went 5-1. Colorado’s only losses were on the road to No. 18 Arizona and in double overtime to No. 3 Stanford.
It was another quick turnaround for CU, which made the day trip back from St. Thomas on Sunday and practiced on Monday.
“In a sense [the quick turnaround] “It’s terrible,” Payne continued. “We’ve been on the road for 13 hours and now we’re all tired and we’re all back in preparation mode. On the flip side, we have an opportunity to see how quickly we can come together and get back on the floor and execute again, so That is wonderful.”
The Buffs struggled in the final game of the Paradise Jam Classic, scoring just a season-low 60 points. Colorado averaged 86.5 points per game and shot 56.6% from the field in its two wins. However, CU only made 20 field goals on 61 attempts against the Wolfpack.
“I think we didn’t really practice much because we had a lot of games and road trips,” Payne added. “The majority of the last three weeks have been spent preparing and preparing for one game and the next, and we haven’t had enough time to focus on maintaining overall discipline and what we need. There was no.”
Boston U (5-1) has been in Colorado since the weekend, opening the season with a 63-52 win over Northern Colorado on Sunday. Tuesday will be the second meeting between the two schools. In the first tournament, held on December 1, 1990 in Providence, Rhode Island, CU won 94-56.
Tuesday’s game will be streamed online at CUBuffs.com/WatchWBB. You can also listen locally on AM 630, the Colorado Radio Network, and on the Varsity app.
