Fans of Nintendo games from the N64 era were eager to play the same games on the Switch. While that fanbase is likely made up of mostly older viewers, some younger fans may be surprised to learn that certain of his N64 titles are completely inaccessible.
Nintendo Japan is developing an app for Nintendo Switch Online, the console’s subscription service available only to users 18 and older. The adult-only app is designed to offer some, but not all, of his N64 titles, the company announced in a promotional video.
At this time, the adults-only app only offers two titles from 1997. golden eye 007 and in 1999 jet force gemini, Kotaku report. The reason these titles are available on a different app than other N64 games boils down to Japan’s content rating system.
Because both games are shooters, they are both rated “T” in the United States, while they are rated “Z” in Japan. Following that logic, perhaps his shooter geared for release on NSO would be considered directly for 18+ apps.
This app is limited to the Japanese market for the time being. Fans will have to wait and see if the US, as well as other countries, will offer their own adult-only apps for “R” rated content.
