Ghosts and ghouls may come out to scare you this time of year, but so do princesses, police officers, and cute costumes.
With that in mind, there are plenty of family-friendly Halloween events happening around Newport County to celebrate the season and skip the spooky parts of the season.
Check out what’s happening with events that take place long before the actual vacation.
Ghost Hal O Vienna’s Scavenger Hunt
Get ready to shake the timbers at the Haunted Hull O Ween Scavenger Hunt at the Sailing Museum in Newport. On October 21 and 28, Schoonmaker Hall will be transformed into Davy Jones’ Locker from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children can enjoy treasure hunts, sweet treats, and storytime. Costumes are also encouraged. Visitors can also explore the world of sailing through the museum’s interactive exhibits. Tickets can be purchased in person or online at thesailingmuseum.org. Trick or Treat at The Breakers
For the fourth year in a row, the Newport County Preservation Society will host a spooky but fun night for costumed visitors as trick-or-treating returns at Breakers on Friday, Oct. 27.
With plenty of treats and surprises for guests of all ages, this family-friendly event has quickly become one of the highlights of fall.
Visitors walking through The Breakers can enjoy Halloween decorations in 10 rooms, including the Great Hall, Dining Room, Billiards Room, Morning Room, and Library. Toys and treats will be handed out at his six stations throughout the house, and there will also be a photo station where families can take photos of the evening.
Tickets sell out quickly, so hurry! Choose from two entry times: 5:30pm and 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and children. Children under 2 years of age are admitted free. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Preservation Society family-level members can enter for free, but advance registration is required.
Visitors are asked to bring non-perishable food items that can be stored in the food pantry at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.

Middletown Police Trunk-or-Treat
The Middletown Police Department will hold a trunk-or-treat at the police station, 123 Valley Road, on Sunday, October 29th from noon to 3 p.m. There will be a meet and greet with police officers, K9 demonstrations, candy, pizza and more.
Aquidneck Pediatrics Trunk or Treat
Aquidneck Pediatrics, 1272 West Main Road, Middletown, will be hosting a trunk-or-treat on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants will find healthy snacks, fun ways to exercise, and great costumes.
Trinity Church Pumpkin Patch
Visit the Pumpkin Patch at Queen Anne Square now through October 31st. Open from noon to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends, you’ll also find baked goods and apple cider.

Audrain Trunk or Treat
Celebrate Halloween early with a special edition of Audrain’s Cars & Coffee on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon at Fort Adams State Park, 90 Fort Adams Drive in Newport.
