In a woman’s worst nightmare, a New York man allegedly took a woman hostage and strangled her in his apartment after the two met on a dating app.
Herman “Nazir” Breitman, of Central Islip, was charged Tuesday with numerous charges stemming from a Sept. 23 assault in which he allegedly locked the victim in a Bronx apartment, prosecutors said. It was announced that he had been indicted.
Brightman met the woman through Hinge and they dated for about a month before he became abusive after she tried to end the situation.
The Bronx District Attorney said two people got into an argument inside the victim’s Parkchester apartment around 9 p.m., and the Long Island man punched him.
Prosecutors say Breitman, 30, did not leave the victim alone and subjected her to both physical abuse, including strangling her, and sexual abuse.
The woman contacted her best friend, who called police before rushing to the apartment.
With her help, the victim was able to escape and receive assistance, the district attorney said.
“The defendant and the victim had been dating for about a month, but when she told him their relationship was over, the defendant refused to leave her, assaulted her, and beheaded her,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. It is believed that he was strangled.”
“She endured a nightmare.”
Mr Clarke warned others to “be wary of intimate partner violence and be wary of dating apps”.
Brightman was arrested on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, second-degree strangulation, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and second-degree false imprisonment. He was charged in Bronx Criminal Court.and 4th grade
criminal mischief.
He is scheduled to return to court on January 10, 2024.
