ALEXANDRIA, VA – First Night in Alexandria is a cherished tradition. Held on New Year’s Eve for 29 years, it’s an alcohol-free celebration for the whole family. There will also be live music, food, art, and of course fireworks at midnight. This year, organizers are introducing a new event.
For families who can’t stay out until late, there will also be fireworks at dusk. This allows the whole family to enjoy the show without missing bedtime. See them on the Alexandria waterfront at 6 p.m. But don’t worry. This is simply an additional opportunity for families to enjoy fireworks. Late-night shows are running as usual.
Remember the fun hunt? It will be revived this year for the first time in five years. Introducing a new way to enjoy Old Town Alexandria. His day of adventure and education could lead to prizes. The adventure ends with a block party in Market Square.
The block party will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Enjoy live music, a “Cool Happy New Year” demonstration, and more.

According to the First Night Alexandria website, similar celebrations are taking place around the world. The event’s origins stemmed from civic-minded artists in Boston who sought to create an alternative to traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations. For one night only, locations such as coffee shops and shops will be transformed into performance venues.
