JOLIET, IL — The City of Joliet Zoning Commission will meet Thursday at City Hall at 2 p.m. to consider a plan to build an automated car wash on a vacant parcel of land along Route 59 near the Walmart store on Theodore Street.
Tidal Wave Auto Spa car wash is seeking a special use permit from Joliet before construction begins, according to zoning commission documents. Tidal Wave Auto Spa is a conveyor car wash company with over 180 locations in the United States. Proposed uses for 1351 Route 59 include a car wash building and a vacuum stall area to house his three field employees.

Suggested business hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Access to Tidal Wave Auto Spa will be at the southwest corner off the north-south driveway leading to the Walmart area along Route 59, according to city officials. Cars will be taken to a toll plaza and then passed through a car wash tunnel. A vacuum stall will be available to customers after exiting the wash tunnel.
Vehicle stacking is available for 8 vehicles in front of the payment station and 6 more vehicles in front of the wash tunnel.
The proposed development would also require approval of a drive-through permit, Joliet said. In addition, car washes may be permitted as a special use within a general commercial district if approved by the Mayor and City Council on the recommendation of the City Planning Board of Appeals.
According to Tidal Wave Auto Spa’s proposal, the 1.15-acre site would be located at the southwest corner of Route 59, on the intermediate access drive to Walmart. The site is more than 100 feet from a residential area where Joliet’s zoning ordinance requires car washes, according to city documents.
