Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has invested in regional language OTT platform Stage.
The company explained that the platform is an expression of a shared commitment to preserve and amplify India’s diverse and rich cultural heritage inherent in regional dialects.
“Cultural preservation and pride in our place of origin are woven into the fabric of our identity. “My investment in Stage is simply a desire to rekindle the fire of our diverse regional dialects. It represents more than an aspiration,” Chopra said at an event announcing the collaboration. “Together we embark on a journey to awaken dormant languages and empower every voice. Our cultural heritage will truly flourish through this platform,” he added.
According to Stage, the number of installations has exceeded 6 million to date, and the number of paid members exceeds 550,000.
“We believe in the persuasive power of storytelling and the potential of integrating regional content. Neeraj Chopra’s involvement adds an impactful and relevant dimension to our mission,” said Stage. Co-founder and CEO Vinay Singhal said in a statement.
As subscriptions plateau and large overseas OTT platforms control budgets, smaller streaming services that focus on specific regional languages or genres have an advantage due to their small size. There is a possibility that
Platforms such as aha video, Planet Marathi and OM TV say that since their cautious beginnings, they have not had to cut their budgets and have benefited from catering to region-specific audiences. The highly local content and late start gave us time to assess the market. They believe that catering to a specific niche has its own benefits. Many are looking to scale up and seeking funding.
In a sense, smaller players cannot compete with large international companies when it comes to providing content. To combat price increases and competition, you should adopt a tiered pricing model and offer different subscription plans with varying levels of content access and functionality.
