Morgan State University (MSU) has announced a series of events to be held this weekend as part of the university’s “Home for the Holidays” program. The event will run from Dec. 8 to Dec. 10, which falls on MSU’s “Favorite Things” weekend.
MSU’s 39th Annual Gala will be held inside Martin’s West on December 8, 2023. The event was originally scheduled for the 2023 MSU Homecoming weekend in early October, but was postponed after multiple people were shot during the Oct. 3 homecoming event.
However, the gala has been rescheduled and will be held over a weekend of exciting events.
This gala event invites MSU alumni, associates, students, and supporters to celebrate while also helping provide financial assistance to students in need. Other events held throughout the weekend will allow students, alumni, faculty and staff to connect before the holidays.
On Dec. 9, MSU student activists will host “The Art of Protest.” This event highlights how MSU’s student body has historically influenced change through peaceful demonstrations and speaking out against injustice and inequality. This program takes place inside the school theater in the MSU Communication Center.
MSU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will also play at Hill Field House on Dec. 9. The men’s team will play the University of Virginia (Lynchburg, Virginia) at 12 p.m. The Lady Bears will play the University of Maryland in Baltimore County at 2 p.m. Later that evening, graduates will have the opportunity to unwind at an alumni happy hour.
Morgan State University’s Magnificent Marching Machine will join the Ravens Marching Band at the Dec. 10 game between the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams. To conclude the “Home for the Holidays” series, the MSU Choir will perform its annual Christmas concert at the Carl J. Murphy Museum, James H. Andrews Haley Gilliam Concert Hall, also on December 10th.
