Microsoft first mentioned this new feature in a blog post about six months ago, but its implementation in the publicly available test version of Windows 11 means the feature is almost ready for prime time. It suggests that.
This feature is especially useful for users who want to reinstall, update, or repair their OS without losing their files, documents, photos, videos, or apps. “This action will reinstall your OS, but will not remove your files, settings, or apps,” the company said in its original blog post. “Your device may need to complete any ongoing updates before this process takes effect.”
Previously, the best way to reinstall or recover Windows 11 without losing files was to use the “in-place upgrade” option within Microsoft’s media creation tool. Both this option and the new option allow users to do the same thing, but in-place upgrades are known to be a very time-consuming process. This new feature rapidly accelerates the Windows recovery process.
According to the latest information from Windows, this new feature may be integrated into the Windows 11 Moment 5 Update, scheduled for release in February 2024. This will be a cumulative update, similar to previous Moment updates, typically published through the Windows Update feature. This is also expected to be the last minor update to Windows 11 before a larger update planned for 2025. Other new features included in the minor update include new quality-of-life features such as improved support for digital pens. , a feature that allows you to uninstall certain apps, such as Microsoft Edge and Cortana.
