During October. Microsoft has officially released the new Teams app for Windows and Mac. That same month, the company also announced a major overhaul of its OneDrive cloud storage app and service. This week the company revealed that a new OneDrive app will soon be added to the new Teams app.
Microsoft said in a blog post that a new OneDrive app for the new Teams app will be rolled out in late December, replacing the current Files app. It says:
The new OneDrive app brings together all the files, loops, dashboards, and design boards you need to work on, no matter where they are in Microsoft 365. This app gives you easy access to all the content you create. Some were shared across Microsoft 365 directly from Teams. New views and filters help you find relevant results faster, making your file management experience more effective.
The new OneDrive app for Teams includes a new app with AI-recommended files.[自分用]section, where you can view files shared by other users[共有ビュー]It includes some other new features, such as sections. “User View” that allows you to view files shared by specific users. There’s also a filter for files shared in Teams meetings, and of course, a favorites filter.
The old classic Teams app is getting the same new file features that the new Teams app is getting this month. However, these features are expected to be added in early 2024 and will remain labeled as files in classic Teams rather than OneDrive. There are no updates planned for the Files app in the company’s mobile Teams app. Microsoft also plans to allow users to access third-party file storage services within Teams through its own app.
