Some are bad luck, some are just plain stupid. This woman, who chose a bad day to steal from Walmart, experienced a little bit of both (maybe even a lot, if that’s an acceptable term).
More than 70 police officers participated in a “Shop with a Cop” event at a Walmart in Michigan. This is an event that allows children from disadvantaged families to go shopping for whatever they need during Christmas. Michigan State Police Lt. Rene Gonzalez told FOX2 Detroit about the program:
“We take kids to the store who might not otherwise have had a fun Christmas. If they pay $100, they get to go shopping with you and their family. Some will receive a $150 gift card.”
It is easy to agree that “Shopping with the Cops” is definitely a beneficial program for children who don’t always have the best home life. This charity event is a great day out for children who might otherwise have a difficult holiday season, and it gives local police officers an opportunity to connect with young people.
A few weekends ago, a real-life Grinch (and certified idiot) tried to shoplift $730 worth of merchandise from Walmart, giving cops who were supposed to be enjoying the event an opportunity to be “on duty.” Ta. I went to the store while “Shop with a Cop” was on. You might think that having nearly 100 police officers (in uniform) in the building would deter potential shoplifters, but one woman doesn’t seem to mind. did.
Lt. Gov. Rene Gonzalez shared his thoughts on this ridiculous issue, saying:
“I have to say I was surprised because people slow down when I’m driving a police car. When they see 75 cops in the store, they probably think we’re too busy. I don’t know if it was.”
The 62-year-old woman filled a cart full of all kinds of groceries, clothing, toys, and other items inside the Walmart store, even though there were essentially a large number of police officers with her inside the store. (and a police officer was with her), and a cavalry of police cars were parked outside), so she decided to try her luck and stormed out of Walmart.
Ironically, the shoplifter was parked literally She was still loading the stolen items into the car right next to her patrol car when the officer, who had left the shopper’s child behind, came out into the parking lot and confronted the woman. Because she was unable to provide a receipt for the merchandise, the woman was arrested and taken to the Livingston County Jail.
Wasn’t that one of the easiest arrests in human history? And it was definitely one of the worst shoplifting attempts in history…maybe Also Human race.
But…maybe she thought no sane person would try to steal with 75 police officers in the store, and she could slip out unnoticed. we will never know…
